Biography

Max Biondi (Massimiliano Biondi), born in 1997 in Cesena, is a versatile guitarist and composer. Engaging with the instrument from a very young age, he developed a profound inclination for tone exploration, harmonic modernity, and a deep crossover between jazz, blues, and contemporary sounds.

His academic journey took a major leap forward in Rome, where he deepened his jazz guitar studies at the prestigious Saint Louis College of Music under the guidance of Maestro Umberto Fiorentino. His talent and dedication earned him the prestigious "Giorgia Mileto" scholarship, an award of excellence reserved for the institution’s finest young musicians. In 2016, he founded the Massimiliano Biondi Trio, a project dedicated to original music that quickly gained recognition within the Italian jazz scene.

Between 2020 and 2021, Max expanded his horizons by moving to Barcelona for a study abroad period at the renowned Taller de Músics. This experience marked the beginning of an intense activity within the Catalan music scene, culminating in May 2021 with a quartet performance at the prestigious Nova Jazz Cava in Terrassa, one of Europe's historic landmarks for jazz. In September of the same year, he consolidated his path in Italy, performing at the XIX edition of the Jammin' festival on the historic stage of the Casa del Jazz in Rome. Leading his trio, he shared the stage with an exceptional guest, the world-renowned saxophonist Francesco Bearzatti. The unique chemistry of that night was captured in a live recording, subsequently released by the Camilla Records label.

In October 2022, his artistic profile opened up to major European collaborations when he was selected for the exclusive international residency European Jazz's Cool. Within this project, Max performed once again at Rome’s Casa del Jazz as the guitarist for an ensemble led by international vocal jazz star David Linx, participating in an original production that was later exported on a prestigious European tour, touching prominent institutions such as the renowned Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark.

The year 2023 marked an exceptionally intense period on the international front. In the summer, he joined the renowned Umbria Jazz Clinics by the Berklee College of Music in Perugia, where he was chosen to perform on the main stage of Piazza IV Novembre alongside legendary American educator and director Dennis Montgomery III and his prestigious gospel choir. Meanwhile, he expanded his presence in Germany by participating in the European Jazz School workshops in Marburg, joining the elite ensemble directed by the legendary fusion bassist Dominique Di Piazza.

His successful partnership with the Roman institution was renewed in 2024, when Max was selected once again for the European Jazz's Cool residency. This time part of the ensemble led by internationally acclaimed saxophonist and composer Francesco Bearzatti, he performed at the Casa del Jazz in Rome and flew to Germany for the tour’s exclusive closing concert in Berlin, hosted at the prestigious SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences (SOPA).

Upon returning to Italy, he pursued his Master's degree in jazz guitar at the Maderna-Lettimi Conservatory, focusing on advanced improvisation techniques. His deep bond with Spain led him back to Barcelona for the final year of his degree, once again under the Erasmus program at Taller de Músics, where he refined his artistic maturity under the guidance of the prominent guitarist Octavio Hernández. During this second Catalan stay, his international profile was further cemented: he was invited to perform at the renowned Talents Jazz festival on the rooftop of La Pedrera (Casa Milà), leading a quartet featuring the esteemed saxophonist Marcel·lí Bayer. Concurrently, he performed again at the Nova Jazz Cava and the Centre Cívic Ateneu Fort Pienc for the Vespres de Jazz series, this time fronting his trio.

The culmination of this intense international artistic journey led first to the release of "Blue Experience", his first fully self-produced album, followed by a prestigious summer debut on the main stage of the celebrated Aracena Blues Festival in Andalusia, Spain. Fronting his trio under the name Max Biondi Blue Experience, he garnered outstanding praise from both critics and audiences within a world-class lineup.

Today, backed by a solid and dynamic experience spanning Italy, Spain, Germany, and Northern Europe, Max Biondi blends active touring with a relentless compositional focus, establishing himself as one of the most interesting, mature, and promising guitar voices of his generation.
